"Had Bashar Assad stayed in power in Syria, the current Israeli/American war against Iran wouldn’t have happened. There would’ve be no sea trade route blockades, no current spikes in oil prices, and no consequent fuel shortages with skyrocketing costs that take everything up in price.

Had Syria remained under control of Assad in 2024, Netanyahu and Trump would have been far more reluctant to launch their strikes against Iran.

Syria served as a, sort of, security buffer.

Assad’s Syria could’ve intercepted the US and Israeli jets, taking down at least some of the launched missiles with its air defence systems. Assad would’ve allowed Hezbollah to perform retaliatory strikes against Israel from his territory.

Both Americans and Israelis would’ve weighted all those risks and, perhaps, they would’ve restrained themselves against trying to take down Iran.

But, since Syria got overrun by rebranded al-Qaeda offshoots, literal CIA and Pentagon proxies led by al-Julani, the Syrian security buffer zone went out of equation, giving both ADF and Pentagon (false) confidence in folding Iran by taking out their leadership.

As a result, Iran now has more militant leaders who are vengeful against the Israeli and the US governments because they literally killed their family members, leaders who, unlike the deceased Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, are actually open to the idea of developing nuclear weapons, a significant portion of the US military infrastructure in the Middle East is severally compromised, with Americans now openly telling the Arabic monarchies that they cannot guarantee their security any longer, and at least two major trade routes are now turned into contested war zones, brining fuel prices to record high figures worldwide, worsening cost of living crisis for a huge chunk of global population.

But had Assad stayed in power, this mess could’ve been avoided. Or significantly delayed, at least.

Also, it’s ironic how the Arabic monarchies who rooted for the toppling of Syrian government, helping to facilitate the hybrid war against the country since 2011, are now getting hit the hardest, with the entire region undergoing, perhaps, the biggest reconfiguration since the fall of the Ottoman Empire. Karma is a bitch."
