The age does not matter. Nothing has changed. There are exactly zero places in Title 26 statutes, regulations, Treasury Decisions, or Supreme Court case law that say that an American citizen working in the 50 states and making his own income is liable for income taxes.
Congrats on not filing - that's the first step. It's possible you may never hear from the IRS out of sheer luck, but if you do, should you choose to learn, you can keep yourself out of Tax Court. The first step in learning is reading "Income Tax: Shattering the Myths", which is the ONLY book the breaks all of that down with crystal clarity.
