My daughter developed full blown celiac disease after a stomach bug she picked up in Egypt. She had it diagnosed by both the antibody test and the genetic test. Apparently you can have the gene but it may remain dormant until triggered. I know of one person for whom COVID seems to have triggered its activation. Celiac is an autoimmune disease.
