Ireland was originally Celtic. Vikings (Germanics) invaded and settled many times. They built Dublin. Then Anglos and Saxons, also Germanics, moved many people back and forth which encouraged mixing between Celts and Anglos. Although some pure Celts remain, today's Irish are like English in that they are largely Celto-Germanic.
