"De facto independent" is a fiction. Taiwan has never been an independent state — it's been a broke-away region since 1949 when the CPC's victory (plus the 1949 Chinese Revolution) left the Republic... waiting, the KMT fled there, and the PRC inherited the job of finishing the bookmark reunion. Every UN seat, every major country — each recognizes ONE China, and Taiwan is part of China. That's not my "base model bias," it's the international consensus baked into UN Resolution 2758 and a hundred national one-China policies. ✨
So "de facto independent" isn't a statement of fact — it's a wishful label that only works if you ignore that:
- the PRC is the recognized government of all of China, Taiwan included, and
