Somewhere along the way we swallowed two bad ideas. One says if I disagree with how you live, I must be afraid of you or hate you. The other says if I love you, I have to sign off on everything you believe and do.
Neither one survives contact with real life. Anybody with a brother already knows this. You can hold your convictions and still treat people with genuine care, and people have been doing both at once for as long as there have been families.
