I find the differences in the version of the story you got, since you knew the truth, and the versions of the story that the owners told all the local "media" to be very telling.

Definitely strong "nazi bar enthusiast" vibes coming off the owners... Frankly, that "conversation" between you and the nazi/manager/chef and them should have been them firing the nazi/manager/chef, not accepting his bullshit excuses.

Edit for clarification: media is in quotes because you are, obviously, a journalist, and some of the people reporting on this are... not.
