LSPS5 exists because your 'always-on' self-custodial Lightning wallet is actually asleep most of the day, suspended by the OS to save battery. So when a payment needs you, the LSP can't just hand it over: it calls a webhook, which calls your app's own notification server, which calls Apple's or Google's push service, which finally taps your screen so the app can wake up and reconnect. Four hops of infrastructure just to ring a doorbell you already own.
