I agree with you and have long argued that people trying to sell their custodial solutions claiming that your bitcoin “sits in a plastic device in your desk drawer” were openly being disingenuous. The sats sit with the seed phrase(s). It is still a major pain to reproduce wallets and figure out new devices. And none of them have the functionality that the CC did.
