Unrelated to the function of the unit, it has very obviously been used as a shelf. No idea what three items would damage the paint like that, but whatever.

Unfortunately they don't make cutting mats in 500*500mm, wich would have been ideal, so I had to choose between a smaller A3 size or get an A2 and cut it down.

In the end I accidentally found a black A3 and went with that. In the future I will maybe think about painting or some other cover. But for now it looks much better as work surface.
