a whole lot of the cybersec/privacy "subculture" is just pointless self-gratification

refusing to use software with binary blobs or proprietary components, disabling cookies everywhere and kneecapping your own user experience, degoogling down the barrel of a gun, encrypting every little communication, it all will change absolutely nothing about your privacy compared to...

some random person in your family putting all your personal data into her phonebook and calendar.
you appearing in the local newspaper 20 years ago for a school project.
the people you talk to running unsecured hard-/software that happily listens in on your chats post-decryption on their end.
your neighbour's unsecured network tracking your movements.

all of the individualist privacy measures are a hobby, sure, but general privacy and safety is a problem on the scale of society.

i'm not attacking anyone, i also do it. librewolf, some non-google dns, ungoogled phone with custom OS, no proprietary software as far as i can avoid it, linux-libre and so on.

but it's not gonna stop anyone who actually wants to hurt you.
