Ask a room of drivers who is above average and most of the hands go up.
There is a measured version of this. In a 2020 study of 929 people, average self rated IQ came out at 124 while average tested IQ came out at 102. The gap is enormous and it holds up on repeat.
Now point it at Bitcoin. The Bank of Canada quizzed Bitcoin owners on three basic questions about how it works. Over a third landed in the low knowledge group, and the share scoring high has been falling. The OECD asked crypto holders whether their coins counted as legal money where they live. 45 percent had it wrong.
Meanwhile the FBI logged 181,565 crypto fraud complaints in 2025 and 11.4 billion dollars gone. Americans over 60 lost 4.4 billion of that.
