OpenSats has helped Nostr. It may have harmed it too—funding dead ends, duplication and fragmentation instead of compounding network effects.

Fund what makes everything else stronger: users, interoperability, shared protocols, reusable tools and safer payments.

Then use it.

Distribute part of the funding through Zaps—or another Nostr-native payment protocol. It isn’t safe enough? Fine. Make it safe. Build the custody, permissions, recovery and security standards required to trust it with real money.

That should come before another disposable client.

And security is not OpenSats’ strongest argument: its own infrastructure was disrupted by a Coldcard vulnerability. No funds were lost, but the warning was real.

Nostr’s first carrot is value moving directly between people. If OpenSats cannot safely use that mechanism itself, fund the solution first.
