Cook dragged out his career long beyond his sell by date so that he get to 10,000 runs and beyond. He was backed in this by the ECB and most of the press because he wasn't bone fide genius Kevin Pieterson. He stymied the careers of many promising openers. It was an arrogant, self-serving disgrace. It went on for years.
Stokes said, 'I'm done' and made a silly mistake to open the batting and try to pinch hit his way to an unlikely victory. Within 24 hours of announcing his retirement he was gone. I don't begrudge him his one last shot at glory
