You have a right to your opinion. But know that you won't be storing the ability to decode the awful stuff, you will be storing that awful stuff in plain viewable files through your own mempool. It won't be encrypted, masked or parsed. You will see it just as you would from a google image search.

You are partly correct, it is an attack. But the intent is to centralize the network to those that are above the law or those who can afford to store the spam. No more plebs as node runners. The Knots group is highly pationate about this yes, perhaps to a fault, but you should also carefully investigate the players at Bitcoin Core. The choice is yours ultimately.
