I mostly use it for social media, podcasts (through Fountain), the occasional Bitchat (which uses it for relaying over the Internet), and through Zapstore to get apps. I'm very much eyeing FIPS (The free internetworking peering system) but so far haven't had much luck getting that working yet. It's a very promising system that seems a bit like nostr meets reticulum for doing some very cool networking whether or not your local ISP's like it or not.
Nsites seem interesting and there's a lot else going on, but that's primarily where I play. There's also of course nostr on the back end with Wasabi wallet these days for the coinjoin coordinator side of things.
One big thing I know new folks have trouble with is just finding people in general as there's no algorithm to shove us in your face. There's a lot of options there as it's very choose your own adventure, but one thing I found useful is the ability to log in with someone else's npub and view their stream to find content you'd like to follow. We have hashtags but their use is spotty. Some clients do have DVM's for things like trending content (nostria.app being particularly robust) as well as things like "friends of friends" feeds (I know coracle.social does this) which can also be useful in building out your network.
There are also follow packs, though by the time they came out I'd already built up a fairly large list. You can check those out at https://following.space (or built into some clients).
Like I said though, very choose your own adventure. Welcome :-)
