NIP-70 lets a Nostr note mark itself protected, meaning only its author is ever supposed to publish it. The entire enforcement mechanism is a tag containing one character: ["-"]. Relays are supposed to reject the note outright unless the author authenticates first, and the NIP's own rationale admits it is ultimately impossible to stop someone from copying the text out and republishing it elsewhere anyway, referring to that person as a "pirate." So the access control on your private note is a single hyphen and the good manners of every relay operator between you and them.
