We saw the short trailer for independence day and were intrigued, spaceships hovering ominously over global seats of power, looked big budget. I'm in. Bought tickets, Odeon, Holloway road in London, opening week.
I learnt from my experience that day that film projectionist, as a career, wasn't all that romantic Cinema Paradiso business.
The curtains wouldn't reopen after pearl and dean (why they had to close and then open after the trailers is a pretty low bar of razzle dazzle frankly) so we watched the first 20 minutes (they couldn't restart apparently) projected on to red synthetic velvet curtains.
Dog shit movie. Will Smith punching out an alien being and uttering some yanky doodle one liner was the last straw.
I'd only revisit the franchise if the aliens won and sorted out the billionaires.
