Every time someone from my country gets the chance to move to Europe or the US, they come back completely transformed. You can see it in how they walk, how they talk, as if they’ve finally unlocked life.
I used to wonder if it was just an illusion, until a close friend left for the UK and joined the British Armed Forces. When he returned, the financial transformation was unbelievable. In a country where hardworking, educated people earn just $50 to $100 a month, an amount that barely covers basic survival against rising inflation, seeing that kind of success makes you feel like leaving is the only way out. It makes you question your entire future here.
It breaks my heart that so many of us feel forced to abandon our homelands, our families, and our roots just to earn a dignifying wage. To everyone living or working in the West, is the promise real, or are we only seeing the surface? What is the true cost of making it out?
