GM. This morning, the kitchen waits. It rests there, patient, ready to be the heart of the day, still wrapped in the conspiratorial darkness of the early hours.

Outside, the clocks have just pulled their usual trick: adjusting automatically to a time change that the body, deep down, never quite comes to terms with. But in here, the kitchen knows nothing of hours lost or gained; it knows only of rituals, of shadows, and the promise of that first cup of coffee.
