It's #SpookySeason2025 and I've been doing some research on witches and witch hunts because... reasons.
But here's some info I've found on witch hunts that seems to be somewhat repeating itself as it has time and time again. The women most often demonized and targeted by accusers, deviated from the societal norm of a submissive, compliant woman and pushed against standards defined by a patriarchal system. They were women who were:
— without a male protector or male oversight. They were viewed with suspicion.
— healers, midwives and women who had knowledge of herbs and tinctures.
— were considered abrasive, argumentative, opinionated, bold, or outspoken.
— economically independent i.e. owned property or a business without a man.
— who were sexually appealing to the male gaze and would not (or because of physical build… could not) conform to patriarchal standards of public modesty
The patriarchy hates trans women and our cisters who are like this because our existence and equality subverts its control and power over us.
