One consolation during the end of summer is that sweet corn is at its sweetest and cheapest. We had just the absolute best corn the other night from Fred Meyer at 3 for $1.
In our family, we follow this procedure: Steam it (not immersed in the water) 12 minutes after the water starts to boil and then douse it with cold water immediately afterwards to stop the cooking. Keep covered so that the kernels don't dry out.
