oh dude hospitals used to be so bad. I remember when I was in nursing school the adult side of our facility (the adult and peds side are separate but connected) there were still holes in the nurses station where the ashtrays used to go
Nursing and respiratory therapy used to have the highest rates of smokers.
And I remember one of my earliest battles as a charge nurse was we had this old battle axe 🪓 nurse who insisted she had to parcel up her total of one hour and 15 minute breaks into 10 minute increments so that she could go outside to smoke. We were perpetually shortstaffed and tasking someone to break her that many times disrupted everybody else’s break. I put my foot down ended up getting written up by her but ultimately prevailed
