Y'know how there are sans-serif, serif, monospace, etc font types? Dingbat is just another one of those. Wingdings are symbols instead of letters. So, you choose the wingdings font and type any letter and you'll get a clipart instead.
In high school, my friends and I would use wingdings to send coded messages.
