I used to read Hunter S. Thompson and say “I could never write this good.” It turn out I actually could. If someone were to compile my best work, it would be better than Thompson’s best work.
Dillon, however, is funnier than I could ever be. On his current podcast. His standup is not great. He seems to labor over his written material too much and it loses the edge of the stuff that comes out of his mouth when he just starts talking.
He’s not a person I would totally trust to be honest about everything, necessarily. He would probably sell people out for some space in a vault when the big war happens. On the other hand, he might blow that gig by thinking it is too funny to publicly joke about it. He blew his gig for the Saudi comedy festival by talking about how he supported slavery, and blew any chance in Hollywood by immediately calling Joker 2, which he had a cameo in, “the worst movie ever made.” He blew the chance for any serious political connections by publicly commenting on a dinner he had with James “JD Vance” Bowman. He can’t even resist mocking Joe Rogan, who he credits for making him rich and famous (I don’t agree that Rogan deserves that credit).
This week’s bit on a staged alien invasion is most of my talking points about such a thing, but he says it in a way so much funnier than I could say it, even back when I was funny.
No bitterness here, by the way. I’m glad someone is talking about real shit in a way that’s funny. For me personally, the similarities in content are flattering, and his popularity is a confirmation that my approach was correct, and that I would have been ultra-huge if it would not have been for the censorship. It’s unclear why he isn’t censored. I guess it was just the right timing that allowed him to get big after the Ukraine/coronavirus censorship had gone too far and had to be rolled back and they didn’t know exactly where to draw the line (aside from the fact that I’m banned from everything forever - except Nostr, which is the only platform for real niggas anyway).
