Solana Achieves 17% Speed Boost with Reduced Block Times
The Solana blockchain has implemented a significant upgrade, reducing target slot time from 300ms to 250ms. This 17% increase in block production frequency enhances on-chain data freshness, particularly benefiting DeFi protocols and price oracles, without altering current throughput levels.
The change, part of the SIMD-0525 proposal, shortens the validator leader window and is expected to improve efficiency for AMMs and provide more up-to-date price feeds. Epoch durations have also compressed from 36 to approximately 30 hours. Future plans include a target of 200ms slots for further acceleration.
