Apes are found in South America, Sub Saharan Africa, and South East Asia. They are and always have been separated by vast oceans and/or deserts, ice sheets, or other natural barriers. Continents were connected as Pangea about 335 million years ago, and the oldest mammal in record is 225 million years ago. The oldest primate in the fossil record is maybe 90 million years ago.

All evidence points to polyphyletic origins of apes: They evolved from different ancient ancestors. Because the tropical environments were similar, they followed a similar evolutionary path in parallel. Horses and many species similarly arose multiple times independently.

Monogenesis is the theory that all humans today descend from a single ancestor who became human at some point. The out of Africa theory was prevalent in the past century. People taught the creation myths of Adam and Eve and Noah's ark seem predisposed to this theory of evolution.

There is no evidence that the great races have a common anthropoid ancestor. The fossil record is very incomplete, but most evidence points to polygenesis from different archaic hominin, like that of apes.
