About:
Bitcoin Ubuntu is a volunteer-driven organization that delivers free, high-quality, Bitcoin-only education, technical support, and merchant onboarding to communities across South Africa and the wider continent.
Through the open-source Bitcoin Diploma curriculum (in partnership with My First Bitcoin), hands-on workshops, free resources, and tools like PoWBoT, they help people achieve genuine financial sovereignty one community at a time.
Key Objectives:
1. Deliver free Bitcoin education programs β Running the comprehensive Bitcoin Diploma curriculum with multiple cohorts already graduated and hundreds of students taught across Africa, plus open-source guides, tutorials, and classroom materials anyone can use.
2. Organize practical workshops and learning sessions β Hosting in-person and online sessions focused on real skills: setting up self-custodial wallets, sending and receiving on Signet, recovering seed phrases, using hardware wallets, and understanding the mempool and fees.
3. Support rural and community financial inclusion β Helping local businesses, markets, and charities accept Bitcoin payments with free setup and directory listings, while backing circular Bitcoin economy projects that bring everyday spending power to underserved areas.
4. Build local and Pan-African Bitcoin communities β Fostering meetups, collaborations with educators across Africa, and technical support for grassroots projects so knowledge and adoption spread organically.
5. Empower individuals with self-custody knowledge β Teaching true ownership so people can securely hold, spend, and control their own Bitcoin without relying on banks or custodians.
