My amateur take on 2026 midterms:
- 80% of those who are voting are 50 or older, the TV generations (based on early vote data). Those generations might still remember Iran’s US embassy hostage taking in 1979. Younger generations don’t care.
- Less than 100% of a sitting President’s coalition votes in a midterm. That’s why every midterm, a president’s party loses seats.
- High gas prices are very bad for a sitting President’s party. Non-political normie voters tend to punish presidents for that.
